JOB TITLE: Instructional Designer (Information Technology Consultant-Foundation)

JOB# 3320BR

DEPARTMENT: UEE- Distance Education

SALARY RANGE: $3,310 - $4,506(service maximum)/$5,283(range maximum) per month

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm; must be able to work a flexible schedule when needed including evenings and weekends.

JOB SUMMARY: Works collaboratively with faculty, program developers, and subject matter experts in the design, production and testing of online courses and programs. Participates in the development of course materials that are functional, intuitive, informative, and consistent with sound instructional design principles. Develops and provides recommendations for interface design, sequencing of instruction, use of assessments, and design of course materials and activities. Provides instructional design and technology support to faculty developing online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses through individual consultation and online training. Provides team-based leadership and project management for instructional design and development process through collaboration with other team members, design and produce engaging and effective instructional materials. Provides technical support for students in the use of online courses. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in communications, computer science, graphic arts, instructional design, instructional technology or related field or equivalent certified training and work experience. Experience and proven skill using Adobe Flash, Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop and other multimedia development software. Knowledge and experience in the effective application of technology to improve the quality of online teaching and learning. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Project management skills including the ability to meet project quality and schedule commitments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the development and delivery of online course materials and education programs. Experience in the use of a course management system such as Blackboard or WebCT. Experience in consulting with faculty and other professionals on instructional design and related complex technical issues. Master¡¯s degree in communications, computer science, graphic arts, instructional design, instructional technology or related field. Experience working in a higher education or K-12 education environment.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: A valid California driver¡¯s license and/or independent means of transportation. Position requires visits to contract sites, school districts, and other outside constituents.


SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to work in an environment with a high degree of distraction, rapidly changing priorities, and shared workspace. Must be able to work a flexible schedule when needed including evening and weekend hours. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a fingerprint background check.
